Carlos

Carlos is an elderly gentleman(dog) who lives in an historic house in Constantia, one of the first wineland areas established in the Western Cape.

My sister was doing her dog/housesitting with Carlos and two of his pals whilst their mom went overseas to the UK.

I met him when she brought him round for a visit. He is practically blind and quite deaf, but he still loves life, and very definitely, FOOD. Put your hand near him and it's snuffle, snuffle, looking for tidbits to eat.

I don't think he's going to be with us for much longer, but as his doctor says, he's happy and in no pain, so let him enjoy his twilight years in the luxurious comforts of the Constantia greenbelt.

I sometimes wonder why some people think pugs are the cutest dogs in the world... but Carlos makes it much easier to understand. Your painting is absolutely delightful!

I agree with Charlene...
But your painting of Carlos adds charm to the breed!!

What to go Liz!

Carlos is precious! Last night I visited my niece whose elderly pug, Ike, cannot see or hear but also seems quite happy and content. These dogs know they are loved! What a great job on the portrait!

This is a wonderful painting, Liz, with dignity and individual character--and free of the over-sentimentality of some pet portraits. I wish Carlos could see it; I think he would be pleased.

Your painting from the life drawing in the previous post is also amazing--expressive and glowing. I'm glad you have your computer back and can share your lovely pieces with us.

Gosh Autumn Leaves, it's always so sad that dogs have such short lives, but Carlos is now 16 years old. And so far he's still fine! (By the way, having discovered your name on another blog, would you still prefer Autumn Leaves?)

Hello and thanks so much Janelle. Maybe a painting of Lucy from you??

Hi there Mary, thanks for popping by and for the lovely comment. Carlos is quite a character in that he asks for no sympathy, just food!

You did a great job with Carlos. I have 2 pugs and Fuji is my senior pug. He looks so very sweet just like my Fuji. Now my Gidget is a trouble maker. I am keeping her for my friend who had the stroke. There is just something so very special about a pug and no one would understand til they had the pleasure of owning one.

Oh, he would just steal anyone's heart. What a sweet dog. And so beautifully painted. You capture the soul of the animal in your paintings, Liz. What a gift you have.
