Emma

This is Emma. She was my friend and companion for 8 years before she went to doggy heaven 6 years ago. She had bone cancer and when she broke her leg, there was nothing the vet could do for her. I miss her still and get a little teary eyed when I look at her inquiring expression.

She discovered squeaky toys late in life and this little pink one was HERS. It seemed to be the only one that wasn't destroyed, maybe because it was a little bit spiky.

This painting of Emma is also my warm-up for Sheila's Art for Animals blog. I need to take photos and get down to painting the unwanted dogs that people throw away. Watch this space!

Liz, Your sweet dog has such a beautiful gentle look. You gave her a great tribute. I had the best cat in the world who died about 3 years ago in a terrible garage door accident. I have the sweetest pictures of Shadow but I have not been able to paint her yet...you've inspired me to try one day soon!

Thank you Arti. She was a gentle giant and I loved her to bits.

Thank you for the visit Megha, it's always nice to meet new blogging friends and I will check out your new site.

Hello Ajay. I really appreciate that comment coming from you. As for the IPL? Well, can you really call it the IPL now? I personally think it's so sad for the Indian cricket viewing public as they are mad keen on their cricket.

Hi Ramesh. I decided to paint Emma when I read about highlighting a black dog with Art Spectrum Lilac. For the black I used Prussian blue and Cad red.

I will be going to the IPL even though I'm not a 20/20 fan - I'm a 5 day addict.

She was the most bestest dog in the world Saundra and painting brought back lovely memories of her. Even though painting Shadow will be hard, it is so worth it and I look forward to seeing her.

Liz, your love for Emma clearly shows in this beautiful portrait. What a beautiful girl! I finally got my Winnie Wiggles down on canvas a few months ago and she has been in the studio with me ever since. I hope this portrait gives you comfort, too.

How sweet this painting is and what a wonderful memorial it is to Emma. What a sweetie she is. I didn't think you needed a warm-up at all but I'm glad you can see how wonderful you are with these portraits! HUGS!!!

This is really wonderful, Liz.
I know that a painting never could take the place of a well-loved friend, but you've certainly captured a fabulous view of her spirit!

Can't wait to see more!!

What a beautiful portrait, Liz. I love the glow on her fur, and the light in her eyes. I can see that you miss her, and I think you will treasure this painting every time you see it. I have paintings and drawings of two cats that were with me for 15 and 18 years respectively, and I'm so glad I have those.

Hi there Nancy and all the lovely Pugs! Thanks for the comments and yes, Emma will now be with me always.

Hello Dean. I think what Sheila is doing is incredible and the need to get down and do something for other animals would also be a memorial to all those pets we've known.

It's always so nice to hear from you Arthur and thank you for your very kind words.

Hey there Sheila. Love it when you visit as you have an enormous workload. You are also always so kind and generous with your comments and lots of HUGS back to you.

Ah Marian (who always makes me laugh!), Emma was more than a dog and I'm so glad that her specialness came through in the painting. More? Hopefully lots for Sheila's blog.

Hello Mineke. I can't remember who it was, but it did come through the blogging world, said that to paint a departed beloved pet was a healing experience, and she was right. (I think it was Dianne Mize). Thank you for the visit and the comment and I'm glad to be in exalted company with the pet portraits.

I've looked at this a few times Liz, and not thought of an appropriate comment - it is just beautiful, and tender and completely loving. A painting to treasure.

Awww this is so lovely, what a beautiful painting of your lovely Emma, I miss all my dogs so much, I have photos but it must be wonderful and comforting to be able to paint your own pet's portrait as only you know them so well.

Thank you Michael for your lovely comment.

Hi Cathy. I understand where you're coming from as it is so difficult sometimes to be appreciative without gushing. But just a hello from you would be more than enough - just to know that you're there.

Aaah Carolann you are so kind! I hope you do paint your dogs - as you so rightly say, it shows when you know and love them.

A lovely portrait. Such soulful eyes. Dogs bring such joy to our lives with their undying loyalty. You've captured her contentment beautifully.

Thank you James, she was a wonderful friend - a huggable Rottweiler!

You are so right about dogs Jean. They are marvellous and I think I sometimes prefer them to people (although I'm not supposed to say that)

Hi there, I am dropping in on you from Florida, USA. I found you on Nancy and the fatties blog. I kove her art and her pugs, as I have a pug + 5 other dogs. I'm sure you do miss Emma, what a sweet looking rotti. I may have to put down my chihuahua tomorrow, going to see what the vet says. I have always wanted to visit Afica. Looking forward to seeing more of your artwork!
