Joan's Watercolour

No, this isn't mine, but was given to me by a friend and watercolourist, Joan East. She doesn't think she's very good, but I think totally differently. I just had to let everyone who is interested, see this piece. She inspired me to retry my hand at watercolour, and I have rejoined the "Monday Group" at Frank Joubert in Newlands. This was done quite quickly, and although the guinea fowl are not all that recognisable, that's what they're meant to be!

Tell your friend, Joan, that she IS very good. And I very much enjoy your guinea painting. Here in the north Georgia (USA) mountains, we know that bird to be one of the champions of noise-makers. Your painting has captured a finess about the bird. Fine little painting.

Thank you so much Dianne. I will certainly pass your message on to Joan. We also have guinea fowl all over the place and sometimes have to be careful driving around, as they're also not very bright birds! And they are noisy!

Great paintings Liz and Joan. Guineas are extremely noisy, but they are not as noisy as peacocks! and dim witted they certainly are!

Tell Joan we like her painting - also enjoy the Guinea Fowls Liz! Watercolour is not an easy medium but can be wonderfully expressive if you allow the paint to do its thing while drying. Margie Johnson said it is like "painting with the angels" - all sorts of interesting things can happen over which you have no control! I am not a traditional watercolour painter, I love all the cauliflowers and crunchy bits that appear!
