Xena the Pitbull

I still occasionally do the odd painting for DARG, but not quite as often as I would like.

This is Xena and DARG think she's about 5 years old.  In the blurb they say she was rescued 2 years ago after being burnt on her back with hot oil!  Amazing how people think that these poor creatures don't feel pain.  She was adopted but was returned after her new owner decided to move without her.

It is a bit of a problem when people return to places like the UK where dogs and cats have to be quarantined for 6 months before going to their new home, so sometimes I guess it is best to try and find a new home for the animal.

Apparently Xena is "adorable, super playful, super affectionate, super cuddly, loyal, protective and strong.  Belly rubs are a must!"

Hi Liz and thanks for visiting my blog. I love your rendition of Xena. She seems to be lovable and playful. Seing as to how I love my dog Benji(there is a painting of his in my old possts) I am appalled at how people treat these beautiful creatures that give us love unconditionally. Keep up the beautiful paintings coming.Silvia

Xena is too cute.. Brought a smile to my face and cheer to what otherwise was a boring day.

I love the Xena's pose Liz! She looks like she loves the belly rub! I almost cried when I read about her experience in life! And, still she "smiles"! LOVE IT!

You have portrayed Xena's lovable nature well. A really nice painting. It's so sad how cruel some humans can be. My husband volunteers at our local Humane Society where they get a lot of pit bulls with really sweet natures but because of their reputation, often do not get adopted.

Beautiful portrait of Xena!! I makes me so very sad that people can be so cruel to these beautiful souls!!

Hi Liz - really nice portrait of Xena! I don't know how I would ever be able to give up my dogs to adoption. We have two boxers and a miniature schnauzer. Simon, our young boxer is having a wonderful time with all the snow & ice on our deck. He likes to pick up a lump of ice/snow and play with it. He's very confused when the ice/snow lump disappears (melts).

Keep up the good work, you do REALLY good "stuff"! :-)

You have made Zena look amazingly adorable! It must be a serendipitous combination of her lovely smile and your wonderful love of animals.

Xena is gorgeous and it breaks my heart to know of the cruelties she has suffered in this life. Dogs also feel emotion. For anyone to be cruel to any animal isn't because they aren't aware that the animal can feel pain. It is because they are just mean and nasty people. I so hope Xena finds a forever home and fast. She has already had to contend with way too much in this life. Poor baby...Liz, thank you for your caring so much and for such a beautiful and fabulous cause. I wish I could take Xena myself. You've painted her beautifully and you've captured a spirit in her that shows her love of life despite all she has been through. She is a joy.

What a lovely lady! Hope she finds the loving home she deserves.

If she's half as appealing as your painting, she should find a home fast. It is beyond belief what some cretins inflict on animals.

Our dog, Rocky, is a pit bull. Everyone things pit bulls are "bad"...
My Rocky is the BEST dog I've EVER had. He is friendly, smart, playful (even at almost 13 years old) and really watches out for Tyler. Our Rocky is pretty ugly... he's white with these cafe-latte spots that barely show in his fur. His eyes are yellowish... Most people are afraid of him until they get to know him.....
He's a wuss... wouldn't hurt anyone.

I love the way you've used the brushwork and the lovely subtle colors to define his body. Great job!!

Wonderful portrait, Liz. She looks like a happy, sweet girl. I thought they had repealed the quarantine laws in the uk if you can prove proper shots? Maybe I just heard they were considering it. too bad.

There are a lot of Xena's around Saundra, but she does look happy despite her ordeals, doesn't she!

Hi there Jean, thank you and please tell your husband that I totally admire him! It takes a special person to volunteer at these 'homes'.

Thank you dear Sheila, from one angel to another!

Hello Manon and thank you - just a little bit I can do to help just one dog is worth it!

Dear Ken, you really made me laugh! I can just see the confused look on your young boxer's face when his 'ball' disappears!

Thank you Charlene - yes I do love animals, sometimes more than people!

I've heard Megha that she found someone! In the latest DARG newsletter she has apparently been adopted again - hopefully this time for keeps.

Ah Ajay, what a lovely thing to say! Thank you.

Dear Sherry, you are so wonderfully kind, thank you. I think, like me, you would probably adopt every stray that came your way if you could!!

Hi Becky, and thank you, I believe she did find another home very recently.

Art with Liz said...

Hi Cathy, yes I hope her new home is going to be forever - she has such a contented looking face!

Whenever there is a pitbull, I think of you Marian and your Rocky and what a fantastic advert you are for the breed. I keep repeating myself, but there is no such thing as a bad or vicious dog, only a bad or vicious owner! Thank you for being such a champion for the breed.

Thank you so much Marie! (I'll be seeing you in April!)

Hi Liz - yes I also heard something along those lines but don't know if it's actually been repealed. I must admit that I don't know where her previous 'parents' went to, but it's quite obvious she was too much trouble to be bothered with. Sad.

Liz, I enjoy coming to see what you are painting. Love
the animal portraits that you do.
Thanks for checking in with my blog. I had deleted the last post, because I felt it needed more work.
Maybe that is why you got an error message.

What an adorable puppy. Am I allowed to say that about a pitbull? She looks very sweet and Liz, you have done a wonderful job portraying her.

Thank you Peggy, for the visit and the email - I was very confused, but maybe that was the answer. So will be visiting you again.

Oh my Carol, an adorable pitbull she certainly is!! Thank you so much.
