A Special Day

Tomorrow is my beautiful grandson's 8th birthday and sadly I will not be there to share it with him.  And his wonderful mother has her birthday the following day with my one and only granddaughter (whom I have never seen in person) celebrating her first birthday the next week.

Now, as is the case with all first born children, there are hundreds of thousands of photographs of Andreas, so I have plenty to choose from to paint.

But I am ultra lucky if I get one or two of Catherine!  Maybe they'll take the hint and send me a whole bunch of the little lady so I can get to paint more than the one I already have.

This was done from a photograph taken when they were last in SA almost 2 years ago, but I liked it, so I painted it, and it is one I'm going to keep!

Liz... This is stunning!!!

I think all the love and wishes that you could share more of his life are right there in this painting.

Will you keep it or send it up north to grace his family's home?

WOW!!

Wonderful painting, You must enjoy painting him. It shows. Three of my four daughters have provided me with grandchildren, a total of five. They all live far away. The one that lives farthest posts and send the most photos. The one who is closest on the other side of the state, the fewest. I'm always having to remind her I need photos.

Wonderful. I liked the confident attitude he displays, especially in the eyes.

What a gorgeous grandson you have there, Liz. Andreas is the cutest! I am so sorry that you have to miss both your grandkids' birthdays though. I hope you get to talk to them on the phone often, at least. I love that you are keeping the paintings. I couldn't see those either were I you. You've done an amazing job.

Beautifully and lovingly painted Liz - his expression of listening is just perfect. I can't believe your granddaughter is a year old already! Hope you get good photos of her soon to paint a matching masterpiece!

Thank you Rupesh for such a neat comment!! You were obviously also a beautiful child!

Hi there Marie and thank you. It is hard having them living on the other side of the world, but it's something we have to get used to and also gives us an excuse to travel!

Thank you Diane and keep them close. Because of the lack of work opportunities our youngsters look for the experience overseas.

Ah Marian, I always love hearing from you and this one will be staying with me - they have the last three I did!

Thank you Peggy, and yes, it is.

Danke soviel Werner für das Besuchen meines Blogs und Ihrer freundlichen Anmerkung.

Hi there Tony and yes, I love painting him! It shows huh? And so typical of your children as well - kids - can't believe we were like that as well once!!!

Thank you so much Prabal.

Thank you Megha - it was a great pose wasn't it!

Hello dear Sherry. Thank you again, and I spoke to him on Friday night through Skype - also saw him on webcam but I can't seem to get mine to work, so he couldn't see me. Technologically challenged, that's me.

Hello Ramesh, and thank you for your generous words. PS I'm back watching cricket again!

Ah special Sheila who should be coming to visit but isn't just yet! Thank you so much - I think he's good looking and I Know he has the most beautiful eyes and eyelashes! But not from me!

Thank you so much Barbara - I deliberately kept it painterly so I could keep it!

Thank you so much Rosemary and I hope he's enjoying his party today as well.

It's frightening how time flies Cathy and I hope I've sent out enough hints to them by now through this post, to get more pics of Catherine. Thank you for you lovely comment.

Gosh Rachel, a comment like this coming from you is like being awarded an Olympic medal! Thank you so much.

What a lovely thing to say Celeste! Thank you!

Hi there Shelley and thank you. Yes, I love doing portraits and dogs and I really need to do something about the marketing side of things to alleviate this accumulation of canvases! Do other people end up painting over and over their canvases just to make space like me?

Thanks for your interest and confidence boosting comments. I always look forward to hearing from you.
Fabulous portrait, aren't children an absolute delight to paint?

Superb portrait, Liz...it is a bummer to be so far away from your grandkids. All that talk about "a small world" doesn't apply when you're a distance from your family.

I am so sorry that you are not closer to your family. I'm not sure that you will be able to keep this lovely portrait because everyone in your family will be fighting to have it!!!!!
