Perlemoen

Half a painting this week, and half of a different painting last week, but did finish one this month!  I need to make some time for myself as this is getting ridiculous.  I am promising myself that tomorrow I will spend the morning at least, in my art room - I will not even turn on my computer.  (Let's see how long that lasts!)  At least I am going to watercolour classes every Monday (when Monday isn't a holiday) and hopefully am making some progress on the watercolour front.

So, no, this is not the half painting done this week, but a watercolour and pastel of abalone shells that were lying around when I was lost for something to paint.  It has a strange name, but that is what we call them in this part of the world - perlemoen - roughly translated meaning lemon pearls.

Love the pearly effects on this, Liz...well done!

I tried painting in the morning before turning on the computer. I was uplifted and amazed by what I accomplished in a short time. Like the painter brain is wide awake and raring to go.
The problem was, a short time later I slipped back into to old habit of computer first...alas!

Lovely one, Liz.....and not an easy one to paint I'm sure.

Beautifully done, Liz. Mother-of-pearl is such a difficult thing to capture in paint, but you have succeeded brilliantsly here. Lovely handling of watercolour, which is just the right choice of medium for the job with its ability to appear luminous on the paper.

Dear Liz,
This is a beautiful painting! I love the colors! Good to know that you've joined the league of watercolorists :))

And thanks a lot for your lovely comment on my post :)

Like the painting, especially the use of both watercolors and pastel. I’ve been experimenting with the two together too. Hope you get more time to paint. I struggle too, staying away from the computer long enough to get some paintings done.

Gros bisous

Liz..
I really think this is beautifully done...
Very subtle differences between the "whites". Wonderful, Liz..

Hope you find more time for what you do so well!!

Gorgeous background for these beauties, Liz. The blues and purple on the inside of the shells is exquisite too!

I know what keeps you so busy, Liz, probably committee work! I am happy though that you made this lovely gentle image. We had lots of problems in our area with night smuggling of perlemoen and the helicopter chases and drama that go with it.

I love the deep red of the background and the soft colours of the perlemoens!

To all my friends, I don't know if you'll read these thank you's, but I'm going to put them up anyway.

Dean, the computer is so frustrating - once you're on, it's work, work, work - I don't go near the blog! Even today, I promised myself painting first, but guess what....

Thank you Carol - I'm not always successful with watercolours, but enjoyed this one.

Hi Harry! What a lovely comment, thank you.

Thank you Ramesh - but I'm certainly not in your league!

Hi Tony. And many thanks. I love pastels (and I guess watercolour as well - depending on the subject) but I still have so much to learn.

Merci Martine - Colour is such a wonderful thing, but unfortunataly I'm not slowing down - just have taken on too much extra work!

Thank you Crystal!

Dear Marian, thank you for both your comments - I am missing the contact as well.

Hi there Prabal. Well, the time between my posts seems to be getting longer and longer - oh dear. But I am still going to w/c classes!

Thank you Skizo!

And Padmaja - thank you too!

Dear Sherry, you are so much better than I at keeping in touch. Thank you.

Hi there Marie - yes, all this SASA work is keeping me out of mischief! And off the computer blogging scene. Hopefully I will have a little more time now with this last exhibition out the way.

For someone as good with colour as you are Marty, Merci!

And thank you Sue!

Dear Tweedles, thank you for visiting and thank you for being you.

Hi there Hilda, thank you!

Wow, Liz! I missed this one. It's REALLY good! Shells are very difficult to paint and you got the perfect combo of the opaque outer and iridescent inner. You've used the white of the page beautifully and I love the rich color and deep value of the background. Your classes and regular practice are paying off.

I used to collect this abalone shells on the rocky coast of northern California back in the 70s. I still have a couple around. They're treasures!
