Greyton Pastures

I'm still figuring out my work load at the moment and as a result haven't been painting like I should! (or want to)!

We are having the most beautiful Indian Summer with temperatures during the day in the mid to late 20s (centigrade, that is) - the one downside is that we are lacking in rain!  But it still makes for lovely plein air weather and I have been trying my hand at that.  Nothing good to post yet, because trying is still the operative word here.

The weekend after Easter I'm off on a pottery/ceramics course in the middle of nowhere - a village called McGregor which is utterly beautiful and unspoilt and an artists' haven.  Am taking my paints with me, so besides the new venture of pottery, I am going to try and put some paint on canvas.

One of my country forays was into Greyton two years back and I finally got round to painting these cows.  I am happy with this - it is looong, 48x18, but what a great size to work on.

This is so gorgeous! the soft blending makes it seem to tranquil and calm, like all is right with the universe. I like the composition with the one cow looking back, before they all move off. Very nice!

REALLY nice, Liz! The long format fits the scene perfectly.
I like the two separated cows balancing out the group in the middle.

Oh Liz...you've done a wonderful job with this! Having just returned from a drive to Santa Fe I saw lots of cows and I couldn't have picked a better composition! I agree with Dean...the two on the outside are a wonderful balance for those in the center! Great work!

I can see why you are happy with it. Not only its beautiful, it also has that abstractish, boldish feel about it. And of course the size is kinda cool..

What a wonderful panoramic painting, Liz. The format is so perfect for that scene. And thank you for reminding me about those sweet towns!

Love the softness of the vegetation and how it contrasts with more defined edges of the cows. It looks like they've gone to cow heaven.

Greetings from the western edge of Canada

This is fabulously fun, Liz!!

I don't know how you're doing it... Working, learning to throw pots, painting in oils AND beautiful watercolors... EGAD!!

That long narrow canvas really works for your cows and they are really arranged (and painted) nicely!!

Loving the colors and the way the cows just stand out among the out of focus surroundings.

Liz, this is so beautiful! Wish I could join you for the ceramics/pottery course as I so love doing that kind of thing. Anyway, love the unique size of this piece and that field is glorious!

What a gorgeous, atmospheric pastoral you have painted, Liz. It is absolutely beautiful, and I love the cow that is looking back toward the viewer as if to say 'come with us into this enchanting place'.

Beautiful, tranquil painting - you really want to follow those cows into it! Greyton and McGregor both sound like idyllic spots, would love to paint/pot in either - enjoy that Liz!

Thank you all so much. I have been very neglectful of my blog and of visiting since way before the Easter holidays and since then have done very little in the way of painting.

I do read your comments though and love them all - my blogging friends are very special to me. Thank you.
