Holding On!

This is another painting taken from one of Shelley Smart's blog, A Year at the Beach.  Thank you Shelley!

As usual I've not been blogging or visiting this past week, for which I (yet again) apologise.  And with Summer and looming holidays and sports fixtures, I keep falling behind.

But to celebrate Summer (although it's very peculiar weather we're having at the moment!), I thought I would post this one.  I loved it when I started it, but was not all that happy with the end result.  Oh well, another learning curve!

And on a final note, and I KNOW it's late, but I hope all my American and Canadian blogging friends had a great Thanksgiving.  Because it's not an event we celebrate, I tend to forget.  Sorry.

This is perfect. You should be happy about it. The water, sand and those kids looks really great.

It's very nice Liz, it tells a beautiful story of the three little ones at play on the shore. You can see the reluctance of the middle one to get near the cold water.

I just realized I blog with another artist from South Africa. Her blog is DEBBIE DOES ART and I was wondering if you've heard of her. Her art is beautiful, too. You two should correspond if not get together. Wishing you a beautiful week.

We had a lovely Thanksgiving feast with family and friends. This painting looks good to me. The kids are having a fun time at the beach!

I think this is a lovely picture of a 'big sister' in action.

You are indeed late for the Canadian Thanksgiving (seceond Monday in October) but your timing is perfect for wishing us a great Grey Cup... This is the East/West football final to be played tonight in Edmonton where the forecast temperature (with wind chill) is -8C, and because Saskatchewan is playing, the fans will be wearing watermelons on their heads.

Why don't you like this? I think it's wonderful. The composition tells a story and the colors are so nice. Love that orange with the blue.

Well, obviously your taste in art is questionable as this painting is G O O D ! You don't have to like it, everybody else does! :-)

Some of my self-critique apparently has rubbed off onto you! :-) Frame it, put it on a wall and make another!

Liz, I love your color choices and the texture is very nice also.

I love it too. I especially like the tension with the small boy's hand pulling on the shirt and how it carries through to his body and the neck of the shirt. It's nice and loose in the brush strokes. The beach on a breezy day.

We had snow this week, 10 cm.! The earliest it's been in a long time on the southwest coast of British Columbia. Was washed away by the rain in a few days. It's going to be a long cold winter this year I think.

The painting is wonderful, more in the movement and the colors then in the details that are not missed. Love it….

Hi Carol and thank you! I looked Debbie up and she lives in Jo'burg, a city I try not to visit! But her work is great so will connect somehow. Thanks for that!

Dear Becky, it sounds as though you ate enough food to sink a battleship! Wow! Glad you enjoyed the day and thank you for liking my painting!

Well, Charlene, I hope you realise I work on African time, which is really Any time! Always late! And as for playing any kind of non-snow involved sport in that temperature ... even our rugby guys wouldn't attempt it, and they are Tough! Good luck for your team and hope the watermelons are furlined!

Hi Barbara - I guess I don't dislike it - just that maybe my expectations of myself were different! So thank you for the encouragement!

Bless you Ken, you always make me laugh! Thank you!

Hi Liz and thank you so much!

Thank YOU Shelley! Your photos are always such a pleasure to view and you are so graceful letting me paint them!

Hi Marie, thank you! Landscapes and seascapes are not my best subjects, but I keep on trying!!

Art with Liz said...

Thank you Krista - I think that was part of what drew me to the pic - the colours!

Hi Elizabeth and thank you. I tried to keep it as loose as possible, but inevitably there is a bit of tightening up. As for snow - I spoke to my family in Sweden on Skype yesterday and it seems that the snow is already knee high! I'm glad I'm not at the top bit of the world right now - keep warm!

Tweedles, bless you. You make my day!

Wow Padmaja, you've made me look at the painting in a slightly different light! Thank you!

Hi Tony, the master of the figure! Thank you for the lovely compliment!

Gosh Marian, I so enjoy Shelley's photos, and it's thanks to you that I found her blog! I've already spotted a couple more that I want to ask her about - I need the photos - I'm not in your plein air class! So thank you dear friend!

Liz, you did a great job on this piece. I love the tension between the two smaller guys, and the beautiful loose edges in their clothing.
