Life has suddenly turned a bit topsy turvy!
I spent last week at the exhibition doing duty and in between have been running to and from the city to get my visa for Sweden. I am off on Thursday to visit the family for 10 days, the main reason for going is for my grandson's Christening. I will also see my year and a half granddaughter for the first time (outside of Skype, that is).
So, if I haven't visited you, I beg forgiveness!
This painting was done a few weeks ago and is of two youngsters who frequent the fishing village of Kalk Bay, helping their dad market the day's catch. For a lot of these people it is their sole source of income and the whole family come out to help.
I am donating this one to a fund raiser Art and Wine auction. It is run by Rock Community Care which is continually looking to raise money to help the local crisis centres. Hope it gets a few bucks for them!

give it to this Community !
I wish you lovely days with your family and your granddaughter !
bisous de France - Fais-moi un signe si tu passes au dessus de Lyon !!!!
lovely portrait Liz. I'm sure it will raise some dollars. What a satisfied grin on the one boy. The way the other boy has his arms around his brother is so caring. Fish for dinner tonight!
Have a wonderful visit with your family.
Best wishes Elizabeth
Ah, just really nice! You captured such warmth and caring. And yes, I agree a little wariness! Like, why are you taking my picture?!
Have a wonderful trip and visit!
Hope you enjoyed yourself at the exhibition. And you must be excited that you are going to be with your family for next 10 days.. That is really good.
And hope this painting gets some money for the purpose it has been donated for. Its always nice to know an artist with a heart.
Last year you posted a lovely painting of the granddaughter you're going to see for the first time with flowers in her hair. I was looking at your blog posts around Christmas, thinking she must have been dressed for the St Lucia celebration. Finally found her -- on September 1 -- and realized they were 'Midsummer' flowers! Sure hope there will be follow-ups to that wonderful portrait... Have a great trip!
Interesting composition, Liz, and so nice of you to donate it.
nice picture...
it conveys the living style of the boys, their toil, their feeling and their love for each other...
congrats...
I'm sure they will raise lots of money with this stunning painting.
Have a fabulous trip. I wish we cold at least meet for coffee as you pass through Doha but it'll be impossible with you in transit. Maybe another time?
A very well done painting illustrating two contrasting personalities...outgoing versus cautious. Yet, both working toward a single goal...helping Dad.
A wonderful painting Liz, I swear I recognise these children from Kalk Bay, you've captured their spirit so perfectly - it should get much more than a few bucks.
...oh, and have a fantastic visit to Sweden and your grandies!!
this paint is such a nice work, love the expressions
This portrait is awsome. There is so much emotion that you have captured, and it gives such a good feeling.
It is so generous of you to donate this portrait and for such a good cause.

What a superb composition, Liz! You have captured beautifully the essence of the children down at the harbour.
Have a great time in Sweden with your grandchildren, they are going to knock your socks off!!! There is something incredibly special about a little grandchild, we are expecting our 2nd in February.
It's beautiful, Liz and very generous of you to donate.
Have a great time with your grandbabies!
The composition is so very inspiring, there is so much of love and togetherness oozing out, Loved it!
Thank you Sharon for a great comment!
Ah thank you so much Marty.
I also hope it'll be worth a few Rand Elizabeth! They are great characters who are always in the area.
Hi there Shelley, thank you. And yes, the little one needed his big brother's protection!
I'm leaving in a couple of hours Prabal! Will see them tomorrow at lunch time! Lovely. Thank you for the lovely wishes.
My gosh Charlene, how great of you to remember that little painting! I will definitely be doing more of her as I will be in a position to take pics! And yes, it was Midsummer Celebrations.
Thank you Carol and I hope it makes some money!
Hi there Sethu, thank you so much.
Hi there Travelling Sue! I also hope it will raise something. On my way back from Sweden, I have to spend 7 hours in Doha airport - can't leave it as I have no visa for the Emirates. I have to have a visa to go to the toilet these days! Maybe one day will catch up somewhere in the world.
Hi Dean and thank you. That is exactly what these two are - total contrasts and I'm so glad I managed to catch that!
With the amount of time you spend in Cape Town, it wouldn't surprise me if you knew them Cathy! And thank you so much for both wonderful comments.
Thank you dear Laura!
Thank you special Tweedles. I will be visiting you whilst I'm in Sweden, but maybe not as often.
Wow Di, grandkids abound! Congrats and yes I will enjoy them. And thank you for liking my painting!
Thank you so much Carol!

Hello Liz! Very nice work! You are to be commended for your humanitarian outreach. It makes me proud to be part of an art commnity when so many of our ilk put forth their best work for the purpose of helping others.
Haven't had time to post much because of school, but I'm glad I took the time to check you out today.

Beautiful painting. Just got back from the Bahamas and I can see the same sort of togetherness and love in this wonderful painting that I witnessed while there. :-) Enjoy your trip!
A beautiful painting Liz ! Very expressive!
Wish you a happy reunion with your family!
these kids look so alive
wonderful animation liz!
I admire anyone who can paint portraits. This one is lovely and has lots of life in the faces. From age 6-20 I lived in Muizenberg, just a few suburbs from Kalk Bay. Used to go there often.
