Life Drawing

A big thank you to all who gave me advice on my last painting.  I rather like it now - just need to take a decent photo.

For something completely different, during the school holidays, which coincided with the FIFA World Cup, we had our annual Winter Life Drawing.  Although there are other venues that arrange life drawing, they always seem to be on the 'wrong' day or on the other side of the mountain.  So I commit myself to going to these Winter ones every year.

Here are a few of the sketches I did.  I struggled a bit - just couldn't seem to get into my stride, so I guess I need to practice, practice, practice!

Khadija was superb.  I used some watercolour on this and quite liked the effect.

Alan has the most amazing physique which was a struggle to draw at first.  So different to the soft curves of the female form.

Alan again, this time using far more watercolour.  Not quite what I wanted.

And Khadija in a longer pose.

Lizzie who had some amazing tattoos!

They are all very good, and more than that, they must have been fun to do especially the experimenting with watercolors.

Liz, wonderful job on the body contours and shapes! The poses seem to reflect the attitude of the models and with simple value scales, you have done a fabulous job on them.

Beautiful work, Liz. I admire how you've used different styles of capturing and expressing the poses!

great! i particularly like the last one, Liz, where the form is defined by the dark tonal area around it

What a lovely way to spend winter days - I love the top one especially with the subtle colour, but all are so good Liz - makes me think I must get myself to a life drawing session again. How big are these?

Dear Saundra, thank you so much.

Thank you Gary, the watercolour was a 'try-out' just to see what would happen.

Merci Martine. Alan was a superb model - very new to modelling as well!

I always think of you when I do life drawing Tony - you do so much of it! Thank you for your kind words.

Hi there Padmaja, and thank you. There were a number of different poses and sometimes I liked the quick 5 and 10 minute ones better than the longer thought out ones!

Thank you so much Laura.

Gosh Marty, I think I find them all difficult, nude or not! But it's great practice. Thank you so much.

Hi Sherry, thank you. I really enjoy these Winter life drawing sessions - it's such great practice.

Thank you Marian. Drawing is really great and I agree, the more one does, the better. But then again, every time we do a painting, drawing is involved even if it's not with a pencil!

Thank you so much Laura - I only wish I could get the watercolours to look more like yours!

Hi Melanie, clothed or nude, people are great to draw, aren't they!

Gosh Harry thank you! I really appreciate that coming from an artist of your stature.

Hello Deb - thank you, but the drawing practice with actual charcoal is only once a year. You are so kind.

Thank you Cathy. It's quite a job to make sure the model stays warm - heaters blazing, rugs and blankets all around, and it seems to work. These are all done on an A3 sketch pad.
