A great big thank you to all of your for your get better messages! I am much better, but missed the Important Rugby Game last week! Oh well - watched it on television and we won! So there is a semi-final today and I'm definitely going even though I have to climb up thirty thousand steps - ok, maybe not that many, but there are a lot.
And the last time I did a watercolour, dear Dean of Deano's Den, an artist I so admire, said I mustn't be so hard on myself. So Dean, I am really quite proud of this one! I did it in stages allowing it to actually dry, and I think my patience paid off. Her name is Roxanne and she's the granddaughter of a painting friend of mine. All that gorgeous wavy red hair! Hope you like it.

Good that you are okay now.. And I do hope you do catch the game live..
And also great to know that you are happy with this one..This is a beautiful painting.. You could consider giving it a cool background.. Just touches here and there.. That I think would bring it forward..
Liz, so good to know you are feeling better! I have to say that Roxanne is beautiful! I love her hair and her skin tones. She has a look about her that reminds me of Judy Garland when she was young...something in her expression...Your patience did indeed pay off!
The painting is so beautiful. A wonderful watercolor. You should do more. Glad you are feeling better
Dean offered good advice, and you have created a stunning portrait...wow!! Glad you're feeling better. I posted your beautiful butterfly on WTTW, but the image you sent was small, and it's a bit blurry. If you'll send a higher resolution jpeg, I'll repost it. Thanks, Liz.
Je suis heureuse d'apprendre que vous vous sentez mieux...
Très belle aquarelle, cette jeune fille a un magnifique regard.
Bon match!
Lovely! A gorgeous portrait. Very expressive. The hair looks like it must have been fun to paint.
I love the composition of this Liz! and he hair is FUN...her expression is so mysterious...great piece...I'm sorry I wasn't paying attention that you were sick...glad you are better!!

Hi Liz! Great job on the portrait! Being hard on ourselves is part & parcel of being creative! It's a good piece if/when we like one of our own works. :-)
Keep 'em coming! You do REALLY GOOD "stuff"!
Ken B.
It's GORGEOUS, Liz...
Most watercolor artists who do realistic looking work seem to make work which is stilted... I know I'm not a watercolorist, but part of what I see as the allure of watercolor is making it look like watercolor...
THIS is amazing!! is realistic but it's also watercolorish.... Mary White (sp?) comes to mind... Very very nice, Liz!! You SHOULD be proud!!!
Liz, this is beautiful! I can certainly see why you are proud of this and I'm glad you are feeling better.
Beautiful, Liz! You are able to capture personality in human subjects as well as in animals, and in watercolor as well as in other media. You should be pleased with this indeed.
Very nice Liz, love that red hair.
Hi Prabal. Thank you but I think I have a long way to go still with watercolour, especially when I see work like yours! But I am quite proud of this one. And yes, I did make the game and we did win again, but the Super 14 final is in Soweto next week, not here.
Thank you so much dear Sherry. You are so gracious with your comments - Judy Garland indeed!
Prabal me again - I did put on a soft green wash, but it doesn't show on the photo - and I can't do anything about it as Granny now has the painting!
Thank you so much Tony and I'm looking forward to life drawing next month. Figures and animals are my favourites!
Hi there James - Dean is an awesome artist and I certainly listen to him! I will try and send another pic later. Thanks so much.
Wow Martine, I understood the second half of your comment without a translator! But had to check the first one. Thank you for your kind words - I am well - and your lovely comment on Roxanne!
Hi R, thank you so much. The hair was left to last - I was very nervous about painting that! She has the most amazing red hair.
Dear Saundra, thank you so much. You've been a busy lady so thank you for your kind words.
Ah Sheila, you are so kind! Thank you special lady! By the way, I hope one day to figure out this facebook thing, but in the meantime, don't stop blogging!
Wow Carmelina, yours is an amazing self portrait - love it.
Hello my friend Ken - thank you and you are so right. We are too hard on ourselves. Thank you for a lovely comment - love your visits.
Wow Marian, thank you! I am now going to google Mary White, but what a lovely comment!
Thank you so much Rhonda, I really appreciate it.
Gosh Mineke, I am always so reluctant to post watercolours when I look at yours and my Indian blogger friends' works. So this great comment coming from you is so appreciated. Thank you!
Thank you Barbara - she really does have amazing hair!
great job Liz. You really captured an expression and a personality here.
Roxanne is truly a beauty!
Hope the 30,000 steps went well... a good workout in preparation for FIFA (only 18 days to go!) if you've been lucky enough to get seats for that as well.
Liz this portrait is lovely. It has such character. I can almost feel her personality. Nice work.
Jean
PS: Did not know you were ill but glad you are feeling better.

This is absolutely lovely, Liz!

Amazing work, Liz! The skin tones are perfect and the little Mona Lisa smile makes me look at the portrait again and again!
You are a fabulous artist Elizabeth! The high cheek bones and the deep set eyes is so well done, it is as if we can "feel" the personality!

Liz,
Great watercolor work...
I admire the way in which you brought the expression on her face...
the style of painting the minimum required area is fantastic...
congrats...
Lovely work, Liz! I can "feel" the hair. A beauty.
Hi Gary, thank you so much.
Charlene, I made it up those steps but unfortunately haven't got any tickets for any of the games for the World Cup - don't think I could take all those vuvuzelas!
Thank you so much Jean and yes, I am totally over that horrible 'flu!
Michelle, thank you so very much!
Dear Fabio, a comment from you on my watercolours is treasured! Thank you so much.
What a lovely comment Marie! Never thought of that as a Mona Lisa smile, but in retrospect, I guess it is a bit!
