Sunflowers

We are sweltering here at the moment and Dana Marie's sunflower post seemed so appropriate for our climate.

But, she lives in the USA where, I believe, it is rather COLD!  Maybe the sunflowers were a promise of things to come?

Anyway, I finished them on time for a change and got them up and posted.  All the time whilst painting them, I thought of that marvellous Sunflower/Pug lady, Nancy Medina whose favourite flower is the sunflower and who also loves dogs (especially Pugs).  Her sunflowers are a must-see if you haven't already.

This is wonderful, Liz. The bright yellows and oranges against the greens and browns just sing! It would be nice to look at while drinking coffee in the morning.
Well done.

You are right, Liz...it is cold here.
But those warm colors of yellow and orange warm my spirits! Great painting!

What a joy to behold! The day is so gloomy here, and when I opened your post with these beautiful sunflowers, it was like getting a glimpse of the sun itself! Wonderful work, Liz.

Liz, I so love the way you've laid these sunflowers in - a looking at the tops only of those so amazing long stalks! I love the orange and muted greens, so suggestive of a getting on towards dusk look at these beautiful flowers. What a beautiful piece!! (And thank YOU for visiting me. I love that!)

Hi Liz, I remember when the sunflower was the nr 1 "image" in the US together with cows. We took photos at craft stalls around Boston and everything was covered in sunflowers.(pity the images were not digital!) Your painting is lovely and a nice size too! It will look lovely in a frame. Remember to give me the dates of your West Coast visit. You can make a coffee stop here!

What a glorious warm painting -- more appropriate for your part of the world right now, but we're the ones who really need it! I love your selection from the reference photo. It's an excellent composition, beautifully done.

Hi LIz - I really like your composition and execution painting the sunflowers. I'll bet that seeing the actual painting would warm my studio without having to use the electric heater! Happy happy painting.

These are beautiful Liz! You ain't too shabby with them either...but I agree with you about Nancy! I know it is HOT where you are, but I'm shivering cold here, so that sounds GOOD to me!! Guess the grass truly always is GREENER on the other side!!

Hello dear Saundra and thank you. No the grass is not greener, it's a fighting battle trying to keep it green at the moment. All dried out and brown! But the flowers are lovely! Keep warm my friend.

Hi there Rhonda, thank you and you WILL be warm soon!

These are lovely Liz. I love the dusky feel to these and how you can almost step into the garden and walk among them! Beautiful work! YOu are so kind to mention my sunflowers, I sure hope my seeds bloom better next summer than they did last year! Need those live models to work from! : )
