A Home Wanted

As I haven't done anything for DARG for a while now, and as they have so many new dogs and cats up for adoption, I thought I must really do another painting.

This is Sledge.  He is a cross Husky something and was apparently abandoned by his owner.

It always amazes me how human beings can be so callous about their fellow creatures.  We domesticate them to such a degree that they become totally reliant on us for all their needs, and then idiots like this owner decide they don't want them anymore!

I believe we share this beautiful planet with our fellow creatures and our intellect does not give us dominion and lording rights over them.

I hope Sledge finds someone who will care for him.

Liz,
You are so right. This is a poem by D.H Lawrence I had read some days back in my sister's text book. This is exactly what you are talking about. Read it if you have time.

Congrats on the prize, well done! I love the koi and Sledge and, well everything! My feeling about Sledge is that it's good the idiot admitted not wanting him, it gives him a chance to be loved and cared for. Better that than being neglected and unloved by the idiot!
Thanks for your lovely comments....the client preferred no 3 too!

You've made Sledge so magically lively, I find myself trying to get his attention before he bounds off to the left! Hope someone who loves animals as much as you do comes along for him soon...

I love Sledge - he looks like he is going to jump off any time. Hope he gets a really nice new owner for the new year. Also, I have to say I really like your backgrounds to the animals, you always manage to find the right colour to compliment them. Well done.

Hello Liz,
Its such a painful story. DARG seems to be so kind & friendly, I hope he finds a home soon. But on the first place why do humans make them dependent and afterwards abandon them?? I wonder.

Good luck to beautiful Sledge, may he be loved and pampered after his sad background. You've painted lovely tones of black and white Liz - he looks so bright and sparky.

He's a beautiful animal!! I'll bet he gets adopted very quickly... He looks intelligent and lively. GREAT painting...
Do they put these up in areas around the pound for people to see??? They might want the painting as well as the dog!!

A lovely painting of Sledge and thanks for high-lighting the plight of all the unfortunate animals that end up at Darg - at least they try to find homes for these poor dogs.

Thank you Ramesh!

And Autumn Leaves - you are so incredibly kind with your lovely comments. Thank you.

You are so right Sharon - rather that he finds another home than live with an idiot who abandons him! And thank you for all your kind words.

Hi Becky - missed you and thank you, and same to you!

Hi Charlene, thanks for the visit and the delightful comment!

Gosh Carolann, that is a lovely compliment. Thank you. And I also hope he finds a permanent new home.

Thank you for the visit Sishir - DARG is a small shelter based in Hout Bay doing a tremendous job with all those beautiful unwanted animals. They have donkeys and horses, but mainly dogs and cats and have a constant battle for money to feed the animals. I hope my little contribution of a painting goes some way to helping them raise that money.

Hi Cathy and thank you. I tend to use cad red and Prussian blue for my blacks with AS Lilac for highlights. It's a great combination.

Thank you Marie - he does look kind of sweet doesn't he! But then I think all dogs are sweet!

Thank you Sheila and thank you and Carrie for starting this initiative. It allows me to give something back to those abused animals. A great idea from special people!

Coming from a great animal portrait painter like you, I so appreciate the compliment Sam. Many thanks.

So nice to hear from you Marian - you always make me smile! DARG put the paintings up in the office - they are quite nicely displayed and they have sold a few.

Thank you Carol!

And thank you Di. They are a terrific organisation and I guess every little bit helps.

A wonderful painting of Sledge! Love the blend of calming colors.
I agree totally with your views on pets...We have taught them to depend so completely, they are like our children.

Thank you so much for the visit Dean - it's heartening to know that so many people love animals - it counteracts the horribleness out there.

He there Mary, thank you for visiting - I do enjoy your landscapes. Here's hoping Sledge does find his home!

beautiful dog Liz!
It's so amazing to me how some people treat their animals. Dogs are such beautiful spirits -- I wish I could take care of them all.
