A Life Drawing Experience!

This is one time that I really envy my counterparts in Europe, England and America - the fact that you seem to have so many art teachers and art opportunities that we don't have in our little corner of Africa. But every now and then there is a little glimmer and we need to grab it with both hands.

Over the past four weeks we have had life drawing classes (I couldn't make the first two), but while America was enjoying a July 4th holiday and Europe and the UK were basking in Summer sunshine, we were bundled up, heaters going full blast trying to k
eep the model, Christina, warm.

The opportunities for classes such as life drawing are limited here and I only know of one or two (private) groups that have models regularly for classes. So for me it was a
totally new and wonderful experience, something that I hopefully will repeat in the very near future.

These are sketches from the first Saturday - I haven'
t yet taken photos of yesterday's class.

Oh Liz, I envy you! Not for the COLD, but the life drawing! These are excellently done! I'm all warm inside just imagining you in class and happily drawing!

These are beautifully done, Liz. You seem to be able to do quick sketches with no missteps. The drawings that show the model's face are just wonderful -- of course we know you've had lots of experience in portraiture.
BTW, thanks for taking the trouble to track down my new blog address.

These sketches are amazing and I love your wrinklie. Sounds like you had a great time sketching. You should check out David Darrow on ustream, I am taking another online workshop from him today.

Thanks so much Saundra. I loved the classes and I wasn't cold - too absorbed in what I was doing to notice temperature! The model was freezing though.

Thanks you Jason - I've checked your sketches and I have a long way to go.

Gosh Charlene, I don't know about experience - only been painting for just over 2 years - so your comment makes me feel really good and for that I thank you so very much.

Thank you Barbara, I did have a great time and I need to figure out this ustream thingie that you guys are into.

Oh Karie Ann, if only I could draw like you, I would be ever so pleased! Thank you for the lovely words.

Hi Sharon. No, never better than yours - you do the most amazing portraits and you have been an inspiration to me.

Hi there Carla, thank you for the lovely compliment. I really appreciate your visit.

My first time with charcoal Carolann so was a bit tentative at first, but then thought, oh what the heck and just let rip!

Fabio, you are my hero so thank you so much and yes, I hope to find out where I can do more!

Hello Rhonda, thank you and yes, I am discovering that from life is so rewarding.

I love it when you visit Mineke and humbly thank you for your kind words.

Hi Megha, you probably have the same problem as us down here, but I found that by joining our local art society it gave me access to classes such as the life drawing which would otherwise be unavailable. Have you explored that avenue?

Nice work Liz! -- keep it up and stay warm.

Good work, Liz. I haven't had the opportunity for life drawing since art college days...many moons ago.

very nice work, Liz. In Dubois we have a wonderful art center and a few years ago had the opportunity for some life drawing and a fellow artist from here who studied at the Art Student League in N Y C. volunteered to direct it. He was excellent at what he was teaching. Somehow everybody got busy and it fell by the wayside. Too bad because it was such great drawing exercise work.

Thank you Judy - it's nice and warm at the moment - 23 deg C in the middle of winter!

Hello Dean, thanks for the visit. Maybe if we were given the opportunity to do life drawing every week it wouldn't be such a pleasure but every 3 months or so would be so nice.

Again Gary, maybe too much of a good thing? I know I would love to do life drawing for say, once a week for 5 weeks, then maybe a two month break. Maybe you should start up again? Thanks for the kind words.
